Dreams of Futures Past

Poems, Volume XI, 2020–2026 (Forthcoming)

Forthcoming, 2026

What remains of the future once the future has already changed?

Futures Past gathers poems written between 2020 and 2026, closing an arc that began more than three decades earlier. Moving through isolation, uncertainty, and renewal, the collection includes the syllogies “Nunc Est,” “Rest Now,” “The Possibility of a Poem,” and “What a Bounty This,” alongside sequences exploring endurance and connection during a period of global crisis.

The volume closes with “Future’s Prologue,” which carries the poems back to where the larger project began in 1991 — reflections on ecological crisis and the past and future of the planet that frame the whole cycle in a single arc, from an ending that is also a return to the beginning.

For readers of contemporary literary poetry, reflective verse, and long-form poetic cycles that meditate on time, memory, and renewal.
